Shelburne Pocket Park
Public planting for the town of Shelburne, Spring 2025. This garden features 30 species of eastern US native plants, including 13 VT natives. Some of shrubs and perennials were grown from responsibly collected seeds from our specific ecoregion (eastern great lakes lowlands) and New England, increasing the genetic diversity of the planting. The replacement of turf with vertical layers of perennials, shrubs, and graminoids have numerous ecological benefits including the reduction of mowing and other inputs, the increase of water filtration, and benefits to pollinators, birds, and soil organisms and health. The park is situated near baseball fields, the town offices, the library and town hall, and the volunteer fire department, along with local businesses. As such it offers offers a place for residents, children, and town employees to gather, rest, observe, or picnic.
